Hilltop Campground sits in a Douglas fir forest on a rolling hill midway between Cliff and Wade Lakes, located about seven miles from the Madison River. A hiking trail leads down from the campground to Wade Lake, connecting to the broader area trail system. The facility features 18 shaded campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. On-site facilities include four rustic outhouses and three fresh drinking water hydrants.
The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
One sits on the water -- most of them shaded. Wade Lake lies 0.4 mi off. Hilgard Peak stands 4,807 ft above the site, 9.6 miles northeast. The nearest town, West Yellowstone, is 24 mi off.
