Madison River Campground sits at 5,910 feet elevation at the southern end of the Gravelly Mountain range in southwestern Montana. Ten sites lie along a one-way loop backed by a Douglas fir hillside, directly across the road from blue-ribbon fly fishing on the Madison River. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and bear-proof food storage bin, with drinking water spigots and vault toilets spaced along the road. The surrounding area offers hiking in the Lee Metcalf Wilderness, ATV trails in the Gravelly range, boating at Wade and Cliff Lakes, and access to Yellowstone National Park.

The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad.

A river runs 0.2 mi off. Hilgard Peak stands 5,110 ft above the site, 6.3 miles northeast. Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.2 miles off, an 11-site campground. 11 sit on the water -- most of them shaded. The nearest town, West Yellowstone, is 27 mi off.
