Camping area within Lost Maples State Natural Area, a 2,906-acre Hill Country preserve centered on the upper Sabinal River valley, five miles north of Vanderpool. Canyon landscape with limestone bluffs and rare bigtooth maple trees—ice-age relics found nowhere else today. Rugged hiking trails traverse scenic woodlands and cliff-tops up to 2,200 feet high. River fishing, wildlife viewing including white-tailed deer and wild turkey, and birding opportunities (endangered golden-cheeked warblers). Water and electrical hookups at developed campsites. National Natural Landmark since 1980.
