Lost Maples preserves rare Uvalde bigtooth maples in steep canyons and rocky hills along the Sabinal River, rising to 2,250 feet. Campsites include 30 drive-in loops with electricity, water, picnic tables, fire rings, and nearby showers; 30 primitive hike-in sites (1–3 miles, no water). Over 10 miles of trails wind through sheltered canyons; one crosses a 2,200-foot cliff edge. Fish the Sabinal or Can Creek; watch for golden-cheeked warblers. The isolated maples produce spectacular fall colors.
