Camping area within Lost Maples State Natural Area's 2,906-acre Hill Country preserve along the upper Sabinal River, five miles north of Vanderpool. Limestone canyon terrain with the area's signature bigtooth maple trees—relics of ice-age climates that survive only here. Over 11 miles of steep, rugged trails including a scenic loop crossing a 2,200-foot cliff. River and creek fishing, wildlife observation (white-tailed deer, wild turkey, golden-cheeked warblers), and hiking among scenic woodlands. Developed campsites with water and electrical hookups. National Natural Landmark since 1980.
