Built in 1913, Murderer's Creek Guard Station sits at 5,000 feet in an open meadow surrounded by ponderosa pines, 32 miles from John Day in the Malheur National Forest. The rustic one-room studio cabin features a double futon, table, propane heater, propane cook stove, propane refrigerator, basic cookware, an outside vault toilet, and an adjacent garage with RV parking. Visitors come to view wild horses, hunt, hike nearby trails, visit the 26-acre Cedar Grove Botanical Area, and fish Murderer's Creek and the South Fork John Day River. Guests must bring their own drinking water.
