Fall Mountain Lookout Tower sits on an 18-foot perch at 5,949 feet elevation, roughly 20 miles from John Day. Built in 1933, the historic single-room 14-by-14 cabin sleeps two and features a wraparound catwalk offering 360-degree views of the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness. The cabin has electricity, an electric stove, a refrigerator, kitchenware, a futon, a table, and a nearby outdoor vault toilet. Visitors come for wildlife viewing, huckleberry picking, and access to nearby wilderness hiking trails. No water is available on-site, requiring guests to pack in their own supply.

The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Secluded here -- the nearest through road is 2.5 miles off, a single-site campground. Cabins and shelters rather than pads. Fall Mountain Spring lies 0.4 mi off. The nearest town, John Day, is 9.6 mi off.
