Maxey Cabin sits in Hyalite Canyon in the Gallatin Range, surrounded by evergreen forest, steep ridges, and alpine meadows. The main cabin contains bunk beds with mattresses for four people, a wood stove, table, chairs, and a propane lantern. A smaller unheated summer cabin provides additional bunk beds for two, bringing total site capacity up to 15 guests. Facilities include an outdoor vault toilet and campfire ring. There is no electricity or drinking water. Hyalite Reservoir is one mile away for non-motorized boating and trout fishing, with nearby trails leading to waterfalls.
The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad.
Palisade Mountain stands 2,514 ft above the site, 1.3 miles east. The Hyalite Reservoir shoreline is 0.3 mi off. Cabins and shelters rather than pads. The nearest town, Bozeman, is 15 mi off.
