Lower Hyalite Group Site is located nine miles south of Bozeman along Hyalite Creek at an elevation of 5,000 feet, surrounded by fir, pine, and spruce forest. Designed for group day use or overnight camping for up to 100 people, the facility features a large shelter, picnic tables, a campfire ring, and a vault toilet. No drinking water or trash services are provided on site. Nearby Hyalite Creek offers fishing for cutthroat and brook trout, while Hyalite Reservoir sits 6.5 miles up the canyon, giving access to non-motorized boating and the trailhead for Hyalite Peak.
The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
Wheeler Mountain stands 2,421 ft above the site, 3.0 miles southwest. A group campground -- most of them shaded. The nearest town, King Arthur Park, is 9.1 mi off.
