Windy Pass Cabin is a 1934 rustic shelter sitting at 8,900 feet in alpine meadows near the Gallatin Crest. Reachable via a 2.5-mile hike gaining 1,300 feet, the cabin sleeps four using a downstairs bunk bed and two loft beds. Indoor amenities include a wood-burning stove, dining table, chairs, cookware, and utensils, while a horse corral and vault toilet sit outside. Two nearby mountain streams provide water that must be treated before drinking. The site provides direct access to the Gallatin Crest Trail, though guests must pack in bedding, lighting, and all supplies.

The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Secluded here -- the nearest through road is 3.0 miles off, a single-site campground. Cabins and shelters rather than pads. The nearest town, Big Sky, is 12 mi off.

September normals 3157°F, 2.3″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
