Walde Lookout Cabin is a rustic 1941 log cabin set at 5,220 feet on the divide between the Lochsa and Clearwater Rivers, overlooking the Selway Crags. Available only in winter, guests must travel 17 miles to the site via snowmobile, skis, or snowshoes. The 14x16-foot cabin sleeps four using two loft mattresses and two cots, and features a wood stove, propane cooktop, propane lights, and basic kitchen utensils. An outhouse is located outside alongside a firewood shed. There is no electricity or running water; visitors must bring drinking water or boil snow and pack out all garbage.
Road difficulty 3 of 5 -- a rough drive in. Recorded as maintained for passenger cars, gravel, pitching to 6%, 50% of it on a shelf. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
