Lookout Butte is a 60-foot wooden tower built in 1962, sitting at an elevation of 5,869 feet with views of the Selway Crags, Seven Devils Mountains, and river drainages. The single-room cabin holds up to four people with two twin beds with foam mattresses and two cots. Inside, amenities include a propane stove and oven, table, chairs, broom, bucket, and mop. A campfire ring is at the base, and a pit toilet is downhill to the south. There is no water on site, and guests must carry supplies up five flights of stairs. Nearby primitive roads offer space for off-road vehicles and mountain biking.

The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Secluded here -- the nearest through road is 2.2 miles off, a single-site campground. Cabins and shelters rather than pads. Wind River runs 1.0 mi off. Marble Butte stands 1,372 ft above the site, 3.8 miles north. The nearest town, Grangeville, is 33 mi off.

September normals 3362°F, 1.3″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
