15.7 of the 31.4 miles in are maintained only for high-clearance vehicles. Mostly gravel, with 5.7 miles of dirt. Stretches run along a shelf with a drop of up to ~120 ft on the downhill side. Winds through 80 switchbacks. Dead-end road -- no mapped turnaround; expect to back out or unhitch.
Lolo Creek runs 0.6 mi off. Chamook Ridge stands 1,179 ft above the site, 2.2 miles east. Travellers have camped along here. The nearest town, Kamiah, is 16 mi off.
