Oxbow Campsite in ID
U.S. Forest Service allows overnight stays only at the designated sites here.
This single streamside site sits directly on the bank of Newsome Creek, built for anglers fishing the local waters. The grounds feature one camp pad and a toilet. While the region directly east is closed to motorized vehicles year-round, the surrounding network of existing forest roads provides access for mountain biking.
The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
Newsome Creek runs 0.1 mi off. Elk Summit stands 2,547 ft above the site, 4.1 miles northeast. The nearest town, Grangeville, is 25 mi off.
September normals 37–74°F, 1.4″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
Set by U.S. Forest Service. Stage 1 and 2 orders change within days -- check the current order before you build a fire.
