Lathrop, Colorado's first state park (1962), anchors two lakes—Martin and Horseshoe—stocked with tiger muskie, rainbow trout, bass, and catfish. The 1,594-acre park west of Walsenburg offers boating, water skiing, camping, and hiking. The on-site Walsenburg Golf Course (opened 1967) overlooks the lakes and Spanish Peaks to the east. Four and a half miles of mountain bike trails provide additional recreation.
