La Vista Campground sits at 8,600 feet elevation in a meadow of pine and aspen overlooking the west side of 40-acre Lake Isabel in Pike and San Isabel National Forest. Built originally by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the area caters to non-motorized boating, bird watching, and fishing for stocked trout on the lake and adjacent St. Charles Creek. Hikers and ATV riders can access the 15-mile Cisneros Trail straight from the area to reach St. Charles Peak. Accommodation options include walk-in tent sites set 15 to 50 yards from parking and RV sites with electric hookups, backed by vault toilets and water.

Road difficulty 2 of 5 -- a moderate drive in. Recorded as maintained for passenger-car comfort, paved, pitching to 8%, 25% of it on a shelf. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Saint Charles River runs 0.1 mi off. Saint Charles Peak stands 3,203 ft above the site, 4.0 miles northwest. Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.1 miles off, a 31-site campground. 4 hike-in sites. The nearest town, Colorado City, is 12 mi off.

September normals 4469°F, 2.2″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
