Cerro Alto Campground sits in an oak, pine, and sycamore canyon pass along a mountain creek in Los Padres National Forest. Located at an elevation of 1,000 feet, the facility offers single-family tent and RV sites along narrow, winding paved roads. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring with a grill, supported by accessible vault toilets, drinking water, and trash collection. The 4-mile Cerro Alto Trail departs directly from the campground, while the beaches of Morro Bay are less than 10 miles away.

All 0.9 miles in are maintained for passenger-car comfort. Paved the whole way in (0.9 miles). Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Cerro Alto stands 1,423 ft above the site, 0.8 miles southeast. Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.2 miles off, a 22-site campground. Most of them shaded. East Fork Morro Creek runs 0.8 mi off. Night skies measure Bortle 2 -- true dark-sky territory. The nearest town, Atascadero, is 4.8 mi off.

September normals 5179°F, 0.1″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
