Built by the CCC in 1935, Hopkins Mountain Fireman's Cabin sits at 3,162 feet elevation near a historic 1908 logging tramway and an 1863 Civil War retreat route. The unaltered 14-by-20-foot cabin sleeps two guests on bunk beds, complemented by an outdoor tent pad accommodating eight more. Facilities include electricity, heat, a refrigerator, fire ring, grill, picnic tables, and a vault toilet, though guests must bring water or use the nearby Blue Bend Recreation Area. Adjacent trails lead to Anthony Creek and the Big Draft Wilderness.
Road difficulty 1 of 5 -- an easy drive in. Recorded as maintained for passenger cars, gravel, pitching to 10%. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
Private here -- the nearest through road is 0.7 miles off, a single-site campground. Cabins and shelters rather than pads. The nearest town, White Sulphur Springs, is 11 mi off.
