Built in 1950 by a local gold miner, the rustic 12x18-foot Teanaway Guard Station sits at 3,200 feet in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest across the road from the icy North Fork Teanaway River. Accommodating two people on bunk beds, the un-electrified cabin includes a wood-heating stove, table, chairs, an outdoor vault toilet, a picnic table, and a fire pit. Guests must supply their own 16.4-oz propane cylinders for the portable cook stove and pack in drinking water. Visitors use the cabin for hiking the nearby Ingalls Way Trail or as a winter base for backcountry skiing and snowmobiling.
The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad.
Earl Peak stands 4,185 ft above the site, 3.5 miles north. North Fork Teanaway River runs 0.1 mi off. Cabins and shelters rather than pads. The nearest town, Cle Elum, is 12 mi off.
