Garner State Park spans 1,774 acres along the Frio River in the Edwards Plateau's Balcones Canyonlands, featuring dramatic limestone canyons and high mesas. Established in 1941 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the park offers multiple camping areas with water and electric hookups, screened shelters, and cabins. Trails traverse juniper and oak woodlands past 600-year-old bald cypress trees; visitors encounter white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and the endangered golden-cheeked warbler. Activities include swimming, paddleboat rentals, fishing, and hiking.
