Located near Smithville in the Lost Pines region adjacent to Bastrop State Park, this 1,016-acre park centers on a 30-acre lake created by a Civilian Conservation Corps dam in the 1930s. Nearly six miles of trails traverse the forest, including the Winding Woodlands Trail through oaks and cedars and the Pine Gulch Trail through loblolly pines; most trails allow mountain biking. Campsites range from full-electricity sites to water-only and primitive walk-in options, with screened shelters available. The historic Big Tree (former state champion cedar elm) and CCC-built pavilion remain distinctive park features.
