Built in 1924 at an elevation of 4,300 feet, Willow Prairie Cabin is a historic one-room guard station at the foot of Mt. McLoughlin, adjacent to a wetland beaver swamp and ponds. Designed for up to four guests, the rustic interior features two unpadded wooden bunk beds, shuttered glassless windows, a table, chairs, counter space, and a wood stove. Outside are four 12-by-12-foot horse paddocks, water troughs, a picnic table, a fire ring, and a nearby vault toilet. The cabin sits adjacent to Willow Prairie Campground and connects to over 19 miles of dedicated equestrian and hiking trails.

Road difficulty 2 of 5 -- a moderate drive in. Recorded as maintained only for high-clearance vehicles, graded dirt, pitching to 6%.

Mount McLoughlin stands 5,137 ft above the site, 4.7 miles northeast. Private here -- the nearest through road is 0.9 miles off, a single-site campground. Cabins and shelters rather than pads -- most of them shaded. A body of water lies 0.9 mi off. The nearest town, Eagle Point, is 21 mi off.

September normals 4473°F, 1.1″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
