Built in 1942, Acorn Woman Peak Lookout is an historic 14x14-foot L-4 cabin surrounded by glass windows atop a rugged peak in the Siskiyou Mountains. Designed for primitive stays for up to two people, the one-room interior contains a table, an Osborne Firefinder, a broom, and a fire extinguisher. Outside is a vault toilet. There is no water, electricity, or heat; visitors must pack in all food, water, lights, cookware, and bedding. The site overlooks the Red Buttes Wilderness and Acorn Woman Lake, with Applegate Lake located nearby.
The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
Curiosity Spring lies 0.3 mi off. Cabins and shelters rather than pads. Dutchman Peak stands 2,424 ft above the site, 6.5 miles east. The nearest town, Ruch, is 11 mi off.
