Magone Lake Campground sits along the shore of a 50-acre lake created by an 1800s landslide in the northern Malheur National Forest. Surrounded by Engelmann spruce and ponderosa pine, the site attracts visitors for swimming, canoeing, mountain biking, wildflower viewing, and trout fishing. Facilities include a boat ramp, drinking water, vault toilets, and individual first-come, first-served campsites. A picnic shelter and overnight group area are available for reservations of up to 75 people, equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings with grills.

The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad.

Magone Lake lies 0.1 mi off. A group campground -- most of them shaded. Lake Butte stands 1,200 ft above the site, 2.1 miles north. The nearest town, John Day, is 9.3 mi off.
