Bates State Park preserves 131 acres of Blue Mountain terrain in Grant County at 4,070 feet elevation along the Middle Fork John Day River, featuring a restored historic mill pond from the region's logging era. The park offers 28 primitive tent and RV campsites, picnic areas, and hiking trails. Located near Prairie City, it serves as a stop on the TransAmerica bicycle trail. The park operates seasonally from May through October.
