McCart Lookout sits at 7,115 feet on McCart Peak, bordering the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness. The restored 1940s L4 tower measures 14-by-14 feet on a 10-foot structure with a 30-inch catwalk. It accommodates up to four guests with a two-person bed platform, wood stove, two-burner propane camp stove, and cookware, but lacks drinking water, toilet paper, and trash service. Facilities include an outdoor toilet and a small corral for stock. Access requires a 1.5-mile hike from the parking area. The site connects directly to the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail.

The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Secluded here -- the nearest through road is 2.3 miles off, a single-site campground. Cabins and shelters rather than pads -- 1 hike-in site. The nearest town, Hamilton, is 33 mi off.

September normals 3563°F, 1.8″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
