Placid Lake State Park occupies 31 acres at the eastern end of Placid Lake in the Missoula Valley, about 28 miles northeast of Missoula at 4,124 feet elevation. The lake, named after the Adirondacks' Lake Placid by early settler Hiram Blanchard, drains through Owl Creek into the Clearwater River. The park provides a swimming area, campsites, and a boat launch popular for exploring the lake. Waterfowl such as loons, ospreys, and grebes are commonly seen. Established in 1977, the park draws over 60,000 visitors annually.
