Basin Campground sits on the banks of the West Fork of Rock Creek, 7 miles west of Red Lodge. The surrounding landscape was burned by the 2008 Cascade Fire, creating an open terrain populated by wildflowers. The facility provides single-family campsites with medium-length back-in spurs, picnic tables, and fire rings with grills, alongside accessible vault toilets and drinking water. The Basin Lakes Trailhead sits directly across the road, offering hiking and biking access, while nearby Wild Bill Lake features an accessible fishing dock and non-motorized boating.

Road difficulty 2 of 5 -- a moderate drive in. Recorded as maintained only for high-clearance vehicles, dirt, pitching to 4%.

Nichols Peak stands 2,472 ft above the site, 1.8 miles northeast. Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.1 miles off, a 30-site campground. 5 sit on the water -- most of them shaded. Blacktail Creek runs 0.7 mi off. The nearest town, Red Lodge, is 7.2 mi off.

September normals 4166°F, 1.7″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
