Situated in San Isabel National Forest at 10,480 feet elevation, Bear Lake Campground sits among aspen and spruce trees next to a tributary of the Cuchara River. It contains 14 rustic sites with picnic tables and fire rings, served by vault toilets, drinking water, and an on-site host selling firewood. Bear Lake lies 1/8 mile away and Blue Lake is one mile away, both stocked for fishing. The 23-mile Indian Trail #1300 motorized trail system begins at the north end of the grounds, with separate foot and horse trails connecting the two lakes.
The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Overhead clearance here is posted at 12 ft -- the tightest site sets the limit. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
