Located at 8,500 feet alongside Squirrel Creek in the Wet Mountains, Davenport Campground features tent-only sites set in a grassy meadow of aspen and spruce. Rebuilt to reflect its 1920s origin, the facility includes log picnic tables, fire rings, grills, accessible vault toilets, and three sites with stone Adirondack shelters. Most walk-in sites are accessed via short footpaths. The 4.5-mile Squirrel Creek Trail starts nearby for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, while creek fishing for brook trout is accessible right from camp.

Road difficulty 3 of 5 -- a rough drive in. Recorded as maintained only for high-clearance vehicles, dirt, pitching to 10%. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Davenport Creek runs 0.1 mi off. Saint Charles Peak stands 3,290 ft above the site, 3.5 miles southwest. Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.1 miles off, a 12-site campground. Mostly tent-only sites -- 12 walk-in sites, most of them shaded. The nearest town, Colorado City, is 15 mi off.

September normals 4368°F, 1.6″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
