Dawson Cabin rests at 9,600 feet at the base of Ervin Peak in Clear Creek Canyon, offering a primitive base camp on the edge of the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness. Located within the historic Clear Creek Mining District, the simple cabin accommodates up to six guests and includes a wood-burning stove and an indoor picnic table. There is no electricity or tap water on-site, requiring campers to bring bedding, cots, and water. Off-road trails run nearby, and Clear Creek Reservoir sits five miles east for trout fishing and boating.

Road difficulty 2 of 5 -- a moderate drive in. Recorded as maintained for passenger cars, gravel, pitching to 10%. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Pecks Peak stands 3,752 ft above the site, 2.1 miles south. Cabins and shelters rather than pads -- most of them shaded. The nearest town, Buena Vista, is 17 mi off.

September normals 3563°F, 1.3″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
