Buckhorn Recreation Area sits on the shore of Black Butte Lake in northern California's Sacramento Valley, surrounded by black basalt buttes and blue oak woodlands. The campground offers 93 non-hookup sites, including a group area and five walk-in sites. Facilities include showers, a boat ramp complex, two playgrounds, an outdoor exercise area, and direct water access. The 4,460-acre reservoir created in 1963 by Black Butte Dam on Stony Creek provides warm-water fishing and wakeboarding. Nearby features include 13 miles of shoreline trails, an 18-hole disc golf course, and horse trails.
