Basalt Campground occupies a shaded, wind-protected valley within San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area near Los Banos, offering 79 developed family campsites. The sites sit roughly a mile from the reservoir itself, nestled in the foothills. Each site includes a fire ring, picnic table, and water access nearby. Facilities include flush toilets with hot pay showers, a dump station, and capacity for trailers and motorhomes up to 30 feet. The area attracts bird watchers, with 150 bird species recorded, and offers boating and fishing nearby.
