14.3 of the 43.5 miles in are maintained only for high-clearance vehicles. Mostly gravel, with 15.8 miles of dirt. Stretches run along a shelf with a drop of up to ~120 ft on the downhill side. Level ground alongside most of its length. Winds through 12 switchbacks. Dead-ends 3.4 miles in -- mapped turnaround at the end. Water crossings 35.5 and 36.8 miles in.
Gros Ventre River runs 0.1 mi off. A well-travelled stretch -- travellers have camped along here. Exposed here -- the nearest through road is 0.1 miles off. Sheep Mountain stands 4,472 ft above the site, 7.3 miles southeast. The nearest town, Moose Wilson Road, is 15 mi off.
