Campground details
Setting
Wapiti Campground sits at 6,000 feet elevation along the North Fork of the Shoshone River, shaded by cottonwood and juniper trees below volcanic mud flow cliffs. Located along the Buffalo Bill Scenic Byway, the facility offers standard non-electric sites alongside RV sites equipped with 15 and 30-amp electrical hookups. Each campsite includes a picnic table, campfire ring, and bear-proof food locker. On-site amenities feature vault toilets, drinking water, and trash collection. Anglers fish the river for trout, and Yellowstone's east entrance is 22 miles west.
Getting there: From Cody, Wyo., follow Sheridan Avenue west through Cody until the road leaves town and becomes the Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway (U.S. Highway 14/16/20). The campground is 30 miles west of Cody, on the north side of the highway and next to the river. It is between Elk Fork Campground to the west and Big Game Campground to the east.
