Campground details
Setting
Rex Hale Campground sits along the North Fork of the Shoshone River, 36 miles west of Cody and 16 miles from Yellowstone's east entrance. Named for a firefighter lost in the 1937 Blackwater Fire, the campground provides sites with food storage lockers, picnic tables, and fire rings, with electric hookups available at select locations. Vault toilets, potable water, and trash collection are on site. Campers have immediate access to fly-fishing for trout, nearby trails leading to firefighter memorials, and historical sites like Mummy Cave, located less than a mile away.
Getting there: From Cody, Wyo., follow Sheridan Avenue west through Cody until the road leaves town and becomes the Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway (U.S. Highway 14/16/20). The campground is located 36 miles from Cody, on the south side of the highway. It is between Newton Campground to the west and Clearwater Campground to the east.
