Campground details
Setting
Clearwater Campground sits at 6,000 feet on the banks of the North Fork of the Shoshone River along the Buffalo Bill Scenic Byway, 20 miles from Yellowstone's east entrance. Set among Douglas fir and large junipers, the facility offers one group area and 11 single-family sites. Each site includes a picnic table, campfire ring, and food storage locker. Vault toilets and trash collection are provided, but there is no drinking water. The adjacent river is popular for fly-fishing, and the historic Pahaska Tepee lodge sits nearby.
Getting there: From Cody, Wyo., follow Sheridan Avenue west through Cody until the road leaves town, and becomes the Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway (U.S. Highway 14/16/20). The campground is 32 miles west of Cody, on the south side of the highway and next to the river.
- Limited separation from through roads or other sites here, a 12-site campground with the nearest through road 0.1 miles off.
- Sits on broad, near-level ground.
- Shoshone River (North Fork) runs 0.2 mi off.
- Clayton Mountain stands 4,184 ft above the map pin, 4.7 miles southwest.
