Scaler Guard Station is a 1937 CCC log cabin in Bridger-Teton National Forest, located 78 miles north of Kemmerer. The three-room cabin sleeps six on three bunk beds with mattresses and includes a wood stove, propane lights, a propane stove, oven, and refrigerator. Outside sits a vault toilet, picnic table, and campfire ring. The site has no electricity or running water. Surrounded by sagebrush and scattered pines, it allows pets and horses, with nearby access to the Absaroka Ridge Trailhead for travel along Fontenelle Creek and into Pomeroy Basin.
Road difficulty 3 of 5 -- a rough drive in. Recorded as maintained only for high-clearance vehicles, dirt, pitching to 8%. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
Cabins and shelters rather than pads -- most of them shaded. Fontennelle Mountain stands 2,049 ft above the site, 3.6 miles southwest. South La Barge Creek runs 1.1 mi off. The nearest town, Marbleton, is 26 mi off.
