Blackhall Mountain Lookout is a historic 1963 fire tower perched atop an 11,000-foot summit in Wyoming's Sierra Madre Range. Accessible by high-clearance 4WD vehicles via one of the state's highest roads, the elevated cab features a wrap-around catwalk with 360-degree views. The interior sleeps four people across one queen bed and a twin bunk bed, with LED solar lighting installed. Facilities include a nearby outdoor vault toilet. There is no running water, electricity, or gas on site; guests must bring water, bedding, and cooking supplies.
Road difficulty 4 of 5 -- a difficult drive in. Recorded as maintained only for high-clearance vehicles, dirt, pitching to 26%, 40% of it on a shelf. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.
Private here -- the nearest through road is 1.1 miles off, a single-site campground. Cabins and shelters rather than pads. The nearest town, Saratoga, is 30 mi off.
