Setting
Big Bend Campground sits inside Smoke Hole Canyon along a bend of the South Branch of the Potomac River, 10 miles from Petersburg, West Virginia. The facility offers 46 non-electric campsites with paved spurs, fire rings, lantern posts, and picnic tables. Amenities include flush and vault restrooms, showers, trash dumpsters, and an RV dump station. A one-mile nature trail loops around the campground along the riverbank, which sits 200 feet away and supports non-motorized boating and fishing. The separate Jess Judy Group Campground offers three non-electric sites.
Getting there: Follow 28/55 from Petersburg, West Virginia, for 8 miles. Turn left onto Smoke Hole Road, Route 28/11, and travel for 13 miles to County Route 2. Turn left onto the Smoke Hole Road, County Route 2, and follow for approximately 3 miles to Big Bend Campground.
