Smith Rapids Pavilion is an equestrian-friendly day-use picnic site in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, situated on the South Fork of the Flambeau River. The site features an accessible covered shelter for up to 30 people, equipped with picnic tables, grills, vault toilets, and drinking water, though overnight camping is not permitted. It serves as a hub for paddlers utilizing the carry-down boat ramp for trout fishing and riders accessing the 18.5-mile Smith River Saddle Equestrian Trail. A highlight on-site is the 1991 Smith Rapids Covered Bridge spanning the river.
Getting there: From the intersection of Highways 13 and Highway 70 in Fifield, drive about 12 miles east on Highway 70 to Forest Service Road 148. Turn left (north) and continue just over a mile on Forest Service Road 148, to the Smith Rapids Campground entrance.
