Setting
Smith Rapids Campground features shady, wooded campsites at 1,500 feet elevation along the South Fork of the Flambeau River. The property includes single-family tent and RV sites with extra-long parking spurs, picnic tables, campfire rings, vault toilets, and drinking water. A carry-down boat ramp provides access to the river for canoeing and fishing for walleye, smallmouth bass, and musky. On site, campers can view the 1991 Smith Rapids Covered Bridge. The campground sits near the 70-mile Flambeau Trail System for hiking and biking, though off-road vehicles are prohibited in the camp.
Getting there: From Fifield, travel east on State Highway 70 for a little more than 12 miles and turn left (north) onto Forest Service Road 148. Continue for 2 miles to the campground.
