Stretching 18 miles along the St. Croix River, a National Wild and Scenic River, this park occupies sandy terrain formed by glacial lake sediments. Campers choose from 94 drive-in sites (34 with electrical hookups), six cabins, a horse camp, seven backpacking campsites, and four canoe campsites; facilities include showers and flush toilets. The park delivers 35 miles of hiking trails and 30 miles of winter cross-country ski trails through second-growth forest, meadows, and oak savanna. Approximately 200 bird species inhabit the property alongside beavers, river otters, and white-tailed deer.
