Setting
Rocky Knob Campground is located along the Blue Ridge Parkway in rural Virginia, set among rolling pastures and forests near Rock Castle Gorge. The facility offers both RV and tent campsites equipped with picnic tables, lantern poles, and fire rings with grills. On-site amenities include flush toilets, drinking water, and a dump station. Hikers have direct access to the 10.8-mile Rock Castle Gorge Trail loop and the 3-mile Black Ridge Trail. Backcountry camping permits for the gorge are available on site, with historic sites like Mabry Mill located nearby along the parkway.
Getting there: Rocky Knob Campground is located at Milepost 167.1 on Blue Ridge Parkway, 1.8 miles south of the intersection of the Parkway and State Route 8, about 8 miles (13 km) from the town of Floyd, or about 90 minutes south of Roanoke by car. Visitors are advised that directions from resources like Google Maps and GPS devices are not always correct and should be double-checked.
