Setting
Caldwell Fields is a rustic group camping facility consisting of two adjacent grassy fields, George and Milton, framed by shade trees in a narrow valley within national forest land. Situated 20 minutes from Blacksburg, Virginia, the campground sits beside trout-stocked Craig Creek. Each field accommodates up to 50 people and 20 vehicles, or both can be reserved together for 100 people and 40 vehicles. Facilities are strictly minimal: each field has an entrance gate, and the two fields share a vault toilet. There is no drinking water, no hookups, and no trash collection service on-site.
Getting there: From Blacksburg (junction of North Main Street and US 460), follow US 460 west for 2.8 miles. Turn right on Craig Creek Road (SR 621), go 8.8 miles. Road turns to gravel after 4 miles. Caldwell Fields are on the right.
