Setting
Lava Point Campground sits at 7,890 feet among pine and aspen trees off Kolob Terrace Road, 25 miles north of Virgin. This primitive, dry facility has no electrical hookups or drinking water, so campers must pack in all water. Sites are equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, trash cans, and vault toilets. Barney's Trail leaves directly from the grounds to connect with the West Rim Trail and Lava Point Overlook, which offers wide views south toward Zion Canyon. Kolob Reservoir is a few miles north for fishing and water sports.
Getting there: Lava Point Campground can be reached by taking the Kolob Terrace Rd. for 25 miles (40 km) north of the town of Virgin, UT. Turn right on Lava Point Rd. and follow for a short distance to the signed campground entrance.
