Upper Onion Creek Campground rests near the Colorado River canyon, encircled by red rock cliffs, spires, and vistas of the La Sal Mountains. Located 0.7 miles off SR 128, the site holds 14 individual campsites and two reservable group sites. Amenities are primitive, offering vault toilets but no drinking water or hookups. The location sits right at the entrance to the Onion Creek four-wheel drive road, while the town of Moab is roughly 40 minutes away for dining, services, and supplies.

The road in has not been measured -- unknown, not bad. Flat ground is scarce -- under a tenth of the terrain within a few hundred yards is level.

Mount Peale stands 2,582 ft above the site, 1.2 miles west. A body of water lies 0.4 mi off. The nearest town, Moab, is 21 mi off.

September normals 3763°F, 2.0″ rain. Monthly averages, PRISM 1991–2020.
