13.3 of the 27.6 miles in are maintained only for high-clearance vehicles. Mostly graded dirt, with 9.1 miles of dirt. Stretches run along a shelf with a drop of up to ~150 ft on the downhill side. Winds through 23 switchbacks. Dead-end road -- no mapped turnaround; expect to back out or unhitch.
A well-travelled stretch -- travellers have camped along here. A body of water lies 0.5 mi off. The nearest town, Kanab, is 29 mi off.
