Campground details
Setting
Tejas Park sits along the North San Gabriel River on the south side of Georgetown Lake, roughly 25 miles north of Austin. The facility provides 12 primitive campsites with picnic tables, fire rings, and grills, as well as an unshaded group site for up to 25 people. Open grassy areas line the river, where visitors wade, float, and fish for bass, crappie, and catfish. Hikers and mountain bikers can access the 26-mile San Gabriel River Trail, a rugged loop wrapping entirely around the reservoir through juniper forests and bottomland hardwoods. Hunting for deer and small game is permitted by permit.
Getting there: From I-35, take Williams Drive west, then turn south on Farm to Market Rd 3405. Turn east on County Rd 258 and continue across the North San Gabriel River. Turn left into Tejas Park.
- Little separation from through roads or other sites here, a 13-site campground with the nearest through road 0.5 miles off.
- Sits on broad, near-level ground.
- North Fork San Gabriel River runs 0.1 mi off.
- Estimated night sky: Bortle 5, a rural sky with a glow on the horizon.
- Mostly tent-only sites, with 13 hike-in sites and most of them shaded.
