McKinney Falls State Park sits on 744 acres in the Hill Country 13 miles east of Austin, where Onion Creek flows over limestone ledges forming scenic upper and lower falls. Wooded terrain features nine miles of trails, including a 2.8-mile paved hike-and-bike trail, alongside creek crossings and an observation deck at the visitor center. Eighty-one campsites come with water and electric hookups; six renovated cabins also available. Bald cypress, American sycamore, and pecan line the creek, while oak, juniper, and mesquite fill the uplands. Fishing and swimming possible in Onion Creek when water quality permits; white-tailed deer, raccoons, and diverse birds common.
